Allergy

About Allergy

Western medicine views seasonal allergies as a form of immediate hypersensitivity reaction which occurs when anti-bodies produced by lymphocytes interact with airborne particles. The factors that cause allergies include pollen, insects, mites, chemicals, foods, or medications. It is estimated that 50 percent of the people in the world suffer from allergies.
Allergy may have the following symptoms: sneezing, runny nose, rash, itchiness, congestion, confusion and dizziness etc.

View of TCM
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) understands that allergies stem from imbalances in the meridian and organ systems of the body. These imbalances can be caused by a variety of factors including improper diet, environmental pollutants (in the name of “wind” etc.). Tension or depression has a tendency to worsen the condition. These factors can affect “wei qi” that is similar to the immune system of skin in western medicine. When the supply becomes inadequate, we become vulnerable.

Treatment of TCM
Acupuncture is an excellent treatment option for seasonal allergies. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can build up “wei qi” to help it the smooth flow in the meridians, which regulates the immune system. Also acupuncture may clear allergens that cause allergies. Moreover, Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can affect nervous system. Finally, the body’s reaction to allergens is lowered to avoid allergic recurrence in the future. Acupuncture can balance and restore correct energy flow through the body, allergic symptoms will be significantly improved after several sessions.
